Gwlad! Gwlad!

“Country? I’ll tell you what country means to me…”

‘Gwlad! Gwlad!’ is a rousing collision of land, song, people and time on a surreal journey into the heart of nationalism.

Written by award-winning Welsh writer Chris Harris with music composed by Stacey Blythe. ‘Gwlad! Gwlad!’ explores the legacy of our national anthem through powerful and thought-provoking episodic storytelling.

‘Gwlad! Gwlad!’ was presented by Awen Cultural Trust featuring Lansiad, its training initiative for 18 to 25 year-old adults who aspire to a professional career in the performing arts.

Performed at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in Pontypridd, where the national anthem was composed by father and son, Evan and James James in 1856.

This project is funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, in partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Bridgend County Borough Council, and supported by Arts Council of Wales and Welsh Government.
